Since 2023, the Taiwan Philharmonic (NSO) has invited violinist Paul Huang, based in the United States, to curate the "Paul Huang & Friends" Chamber Music Festival. This year marks its fourth season, which will kick off with "Americana - Appalachian Spring."
The concert will feature the Piano Trio by Jennifer Higdon, an American composer who has won both the Pulitzer Prize for Music and the Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Classical Composition, as well as the chamber music version of Copland's ballet Appalachian Spring, a rare treat. Additionally, the program includes Dvořák's String Quintet in E-flat major, Op. 97, American, written during his time in the United States. This piece blends the flavors of both the New World and Bohemia, full of rich rural charm that captivates the listener.
With an excptional performance lineup, the concert will bring to life timeless masterpieces. Only by attending the performance in person can one truly understand what it means to experience a "classic"!

Recipient of 2015 Avery Fisher Career Grant and 2017 Lincoln Center Award for Emerging Artists, violinist Paul HUANG is one of the most distinctive artists of his generation. After his debut recital at the Kennedy Center, The Washington Post remarked that HUANG "possesses a big, luscious tone, spot-on intonation and a technique that ... feels as natural as breathing." His recent and forthcoming appearances include those with Detroit Symphony, Baltimore Symphony, Mariinsky Orchestra, London Philharmonic, BBC Symphony, Rotterdam Philharmonic, and Houston Symphony, Hiroshima Symphony, San Francisco Symphony, Dallas Symphony, NHK Symphony, Vancouver Symphony, Residentie Orkest Den Haag, and his return to the National Symphony Orchestra of Taiwan. A frequent guest artist at music festivals worldwide, he recently stepped in for Anne-Sophie MUTTER at Bravo! Vail Music Festival and made recital debuts at the Lucerne Festival, Ravinia Festival, and Aspen Music Festival. In 2021, Mr. Huang became the first classical violinist to perform his own arrangement of the US National Anthem for the opening game of the NFL at the Bank of America Stadium. An exclusive recording artist for France's Naïve Records, his third album for the label will be released worldwide in June 2026. Mr. Huang performs on the legendary 1742 “ex-Wieniawski” Guarneri del Gesù on extended loan through the Stradivari Society of Chicago and is on the faculty of Taipei National University of the Arts. He resides in New York.
Violin/Richard Lin
Taiwanese-American violinist Richard Lin has continued to gain international prominence since winning the Gold Medal at the 2018 International Violin Competition of Indianapolis. Following his June 2022 recital debut at Carnegie Hall's Stern Auditorium, the New York Concert Review stated: "Richard Lin. Remember the name. For he has everything required to take the world by storm." Richard has collaborated with numerous orchestras and has given critically acclaimed recitals at celebrated concert venues worldwide. He is also a member of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center. A dedicated teacher, Richard is on the faculty of the National Taipei University of Education and gives masterclasses around the world. In addition to his 2018 Indianapolis win, Richard has amassed an impressive collection of top prizes at major international competitions, including 1st Prize at the Sendai International Violin Competition, 3rd Prize at the Joseph Joachim International Violin Competition in Hannover, and 2nd Prize at both the Singapore and Michael Hill International Violin Competitions. Born in Phoenix, Arizona, and raised in Taiwan, Richard began studying the violin at the age of four. He made his public debut at age eleven, performing Saint-Saëns' Violin Concerto No. 3 with the Taipei Symphony Orchestra. He later graduated from the Curtis Institute of Music and The Juilliard School, studying with Aaron Rosand and Lewis Kaplan, respectively. Richard's newly released album Journey, with pianist Thomas Hoppe on the Azica label, features his Carnegie Hall program with works by Vitali, R. Strauss, John Corigliano, and Frolov. The album is available on all streaming platforms.
Viola/Timothy Ridout
With awards including the inaugural Sir Jeffrey Tate Prize in Hamburg and a Borletti-Buitoni Trust Fellowship, Timothy Ridout has confirmed his position at the forefront of young European soloists. He has been a BBC New Generation Artist since 2019 and joined the Bowers Program of the Chamber Music Society of the Lincoln Center in 2021. Orchestral engagements include appearances as soloist with the BBC Symphony and Philhamonia orchestras, the Tonhalleorchester Zürich, the Paris and Lausanne Chamber orchestras, the Lucerne and Hamburg Symphony orchestras, Chamber Orchestra of Europe and Orchestre National de Lille; whilst recitals and chamber performances include the Wigmore Hall, Oji Hall, Wiener Musikverein and the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, among many others. In August 2021 he made his BBC Proms debut performing the Walton concerto under the baton of Sakari Oramo. A Harmonia Mundi recording artist, Ridout has worked with conductors including Sylvain Cambreling, Christoph Eschenbach, Sir Andras Schiff and David Zinman; whilst his chamber music collaborations encompass projects with Nicolas Altstaedt, Joshua Bell, Frank Dupree, Isabelle Faust, Steven Isserlis, Janine Jansen, Lars Vogt, Jonathan Ware, Christian Tetzlaff and Jeremy Denk, among many others.
Cello/Daniel Müller-Schott
Cellist Mūller-Schut enjoys invitations from around the world, performing at major concert halls. The New York Times has praised him for his "intense expressiveness" and "bold, fiery technique." He studied under notable mentors such as Notas, Schiff, and Isserlis, and has received multiple awards, including the Starki Prize. He has also worked with renowned conductors such as Mstislav Rostropovich. In addition to performing Baroque and contemporary concertos, he is dedicated to discovering new works, with composers such as André Previn, Albrecht, and Peter Ruzicka dedicating cello concertos to him. During the 2025/26 season, he will perform Elgar's Cello Concerto with the London Symphony Orchestra and Sir Antonio Pappano, and a chamber music night at Carnegie Hall in New York. He will also collaborate with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra and conductor Jun Märkl, the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra and conductor Daniele Rustioni, and participate in the Kissinger Sommer Festival in Germany, as well as perform with the Czech Philharmonic and conductor Dalia Stasevska. Mūller-Schut is a frequent participant in music festivals and has released numerous recordings. He plays the 1727 Francesco Goffriller "Ex Shapiro" cello.
Clarinet/May-Lin Ju
Clarinetist May-Lin Ju studied under professors Henri Druart, Guy Deplus, XUE Yao-Wu, and Lai Yong, and graduated from Conservatoire National de RUEIL-MALMAISON in France. In 1984, she toured Southeast Asia with the C.Y.C. Wind Orchestra, performing as a soloist. She graduated first in her class from National Taiwan University of Arts in 1985, where she also premiered Sibelius' Second Concerto with the university's symphony orchestra. That same year, she won the National Flute Competition. In 1987, she was awarded the Ministry of Education's scholarship for further study in France, where she made rapid progress and graduated in a short period. In 1989, she returned to Taiwan and joined the Taiwan Philharmonic (NSO) as a principal clarinetist, a position she still holds today. She is frequently invited to perform in various concerts and premieres of Taiwanese composers' works. May-Lin Ju was invited to participate in the Pacific Music Festival in Japan in 1991 and again in 2004, serving as the principal clarinetist. Since returning to Taiwan from France, she has performed with the Taiwan Philharmonic (NSO) in works such as Debussy's Rhapsody for Clarinet, Mozart's Clarinet Concerto in A Major, and Weber's Clarinet Concerto No. 2. In 2000, she performed Rossini's Variations for Clarinet in Macau.
Piano/Chung-Hua Weng
Chung-Hua Weng is known for his excellent technical precision and rich, flexible musical expression, making him a highly sought-after collaborator among musicians in Taiwan. He graduated from the National Taipei University of the Arts and the Eastman School of Music in the United States. After earning his Master's degree, he returned to Taiwan to focus on collaborative piano performances, music engraving, and arrangement, covering a wide range of genres including duets, chamber music, and lectures. Weng has served as a pianist for annual opera rehearsals with the Taipei Symphony Orchestra and the Taiwan Philharmonic (NSO). In recent years, as a guest pianist, he has participated in chamber music series concerts organized by the Taiwan Philharmonic (NSO), working with various thematic combinations. In 2016, 2018, and 2021, he recorded and released several albums with violinist Shien-Ta Su, principal horn of the Taiwan Philharmonic (NSO), Yi-Hsin Liu, and violinist Yu-Ting Huang. In 2021, Weng composed the piano music for the short film MELODIA, featuring Beethoven's piano sonatas, which won the Best Music Award at the 2024 Buenos Aires International Film Festival (BUEIFF). He currently teaches in the Department of Music at Soochow University.
