The NSO, supported by the TSMC Foundation and in collaboration with Taipei National University of the Arts (TNUA), started the "TSMC x NSO x TNUA Music Educational Program" in 2021 to develop future generations of music talent in Taiwan. 

Under the leadership of the NSO's current and former music directors Maestro Jun Märkl and Lu Shao-Chia, the Program focuses on developing composers and conductors. 

Composers

For the development of budding composers, the "One-Minute Symphony" Project supports young composers in writing orchestral music to be performed by the NSO. Each student in the program writes a one-minute piece in collaborationin with Maestro Märkl. The final product is then given a world premiere by the NSO, usually as the opening piece at an NSO Subscription Concert. This process followed by a performance of their composition allows composers to gain practical experience working with a conductor and a full-sized symphony orchestra. The project is supplemented by NSO's Honorary Conductor's orchestral ensemble program at the National Taipei University of the Arts, and the open-enrollment series Conductors' Masterclass.

One success story from this program was NTUA student Szu-An Chen, who composed the one-minute piece "Mizzle "with the NSO in 2022. Chen expanded the piece into "Three Visions of Rain", which was performed by the Stuttgart Philharmonic on 10 February 2024, under the baton of Mario Venzago.
