Ying-Chi Tang
Ying-Chi Tang received her master’s degree from Indiana University, where she was a pupil of Tsuyoshi Tsutsumi and Csaba Onczay. After graduating from Indiana University, she went to Yale University to study with Aldo Parisot, and received an artist diploma on full scholarship.
Ms. Tang was the first prize winner at the Indiana University Cello Concerto Competition, playing Shostakovich’s Cello Concerto No.1 in E-Flat major under the baton of Sarah Ioannides. Her training and development were decisively stimulated by masterclasses with Janos Starker, Jian Wang, Frans Helmerson, Clive Greensmith, and Ralph Kirshbaum.
From 2010 to 2012, Ms. Tang was the principal cellist in the Evergreen Symphony Orchestra, where she played cello concertos by Elgar and Haydn in the National Concert Hall and Chang Yung-Fa Foundation in Taipei, under the batons of Gernot Schmalfuss and Wen-Chen Chuang. She now collaborates with the NSO on many different chamber projects and presents concerts frequently.
