Yi-Shien Lien

Yi-Shien Lien

Lien holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Cello Performance from the University of Maryland.

She was the winner of the Homer Ulrich Honors Award in Solo Performance and has performed at both Lincoln Center and the Kennedy Center. She attended master classes with Janos Starker, Norman Fischer, and Orlando Cole.

Her notable solo performances include the Ibert Cello Concerto with members of the National Symphony Orchestra (NSO), the Gulda Cello Concerto with the Taiwan Wind Ensemble, and the world premiere of the “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon” concerto by Tan Dun, performed with the NSO and the National Chinese Orchestra Taiwan under the baton of the composer.
