HORN Associate Principal
Pin-Chun Liu
Pin-Chun Liu received her Bachelor’s degree from Manhattan School of Music, studying under Javier Gandara. She then entered the Orchestral Performance program and received a Master of Music degree in the same school, where she was a full-scholarship student of Michelle Baker.
Pin-Chun has won numerous competitions, including 1st prize at the Taipei Music competition and National Taiwan music competition, as well as the Taipei Youth Wind Orchestra concerto competition and Young Artist Star competition by Taipei Symphony Orchestra. In addition, she has been a member of Hsing-Tien Temple long-term cultivation for gifted students since 2009 and was awarded scholarships every semester. She has received guidance from masters such as Stefan Dohr, Sarah Willis, Radovan Vlatkovic, Carsten Duffin, Richard King, and many others.
During her time in the US, Pin-Chun has actively participated in various performances and music festivals, performing at venues such as Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center- David Geffen Hall, and The New World Center. She was invited to perform in Taiwan Connection with Nai-Yuan Hu and other fabulous musicians. In 2019, she founded Ensemble Opus 5.0 Woodwind Quintet with four talented musicians, and they regularly perform at various music venues. Besides performing, Pin-Chun is also experienced in horn teaching. She joined the National Symphony Orchestra as Associate Principal Horn in September 2016.
