Born in Taipei, Kai-Yu graduated from the Department of Music of the National Taiwan Normal University and the Detmold Music Acedemy in Germany. She studied with Professor Chia-Chu Hsü and Helman Jung. After Kai-Yu received her “Kuenstlerische Ausbildung Diplomin Germany, she has been assigned as the Principal Bassoon of Taiwan Philharmonic (National Symphony Orchestra) since 2003. In 2006, she earned “Konzertexamen” diplom cum laude.
She has received several prestigious awards, including the first prize of the Fox Bassoon Competition (2005) in Beijing, the National Taiwan Normal University Concerto competition, and the Woodwind Quintet Competition of the Pes Culture foundation. She was also recipients of the DAAD scholarship and 10th Artist scholarship of the Chi-May Culture foundation and was chosen as “Young Stars” from the National Culture Center Taiwan in 2005. She has appeared at many festivals and orchestras, such as the Pacific Music Festival in Japan, the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival in Germany, the Asian Youth Orchestra and the JungeDeutsche Philharmonie.
She is very keen to perform in orchestra, solo concert and is also active in various chamber music ensembles. She is currently the Principal Bassoon of Taiwan Philharmonic (NSO) , the member of the “Taipei Bassoon Express Ensemble” ,”Sen Trio d’ Anches“.
