Yi-Hsin Cindy Liu has been the principal horn with the National Symphony Orchestra in Taiwan since September 2005.
She graduated from the University of Auckland with Piano Major at the age of Twenty. In 1998, she was accepted with scholarship to study with the associate principal horn of the New York Philharmonic, Jerome Ashby at the Manhattan School of Music in New York City, USA. Subsequently, she continued her studies with the former second horn of Philadelphia Orchestra, Mr. Randy Gardner at the College-Conservatory of Music, University of Cincinnati and was awarded with the Doctoral of Musical Arts degree in June 2005. While she was in the US, she was invited to participate in the Aspen and Kent/Blossom Music Festival and worked with major conductors.
In 2011, She was invited to be the principal horn with the Cross-straits Exchange Orchestra. In 2013, she performed the Strauss horn concerto no. 1 with the National Symphony Orchestra with conductor Gunther Herbig. In 2017 she collaborated with her collogues to perform the Mozart Symphonie Concertante as part of the NSO 30th celebration concerts. She was also invited to premiere the David Gilligham Horn concerto with Bands in Taiwan with the C.Y.C Wind Orchestra in 2019. In May 2021 she premiered the Richard Strauss horn concerto no. 2 (with symphonic band version) with the National Taiwan Normal University Concert Band. Besides her classical music achievement, Cindy can also be heard in numerous movie soundtracks such as “A Sun” which won the Golden Horse Award in 2019.
