Yung-Ho Fu

Yung-Ho FU is the principal double bass of the National Symphony Orchestra, an educator, the founder and arts director of Lan Yang International Double Bass Summer Camp, and an associate professor at National Taipei University of the Arts and Shih Chien University.

He studied at the National Academy of Arts, the National Taipei University of the Arts, and the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris (1989 Premier Prix de CNSM de Paris)

His teachers include Yue-E Chang (Erhu), Si-Sum Cheng (conductor), double bass professor David Chi (National Taiwan Academy of the Arts), cello professor Reiner Hochmuth (National Taipei University of the Art), and double bass Professor Jean-Marc Rollez (CNSM de Paris)

During the years at the National Taiwan Academy of the Arts, Fu studied conducting with Prof. Si-Sum Cheng. Fu conducted the Academy Ochestra throughout the country. After graduation, he served as the associate conductor of the Zhengfeng Chinese Orchestra. While studying in France, Fu was invited to perform on many recitals in various places in France.

In the early days after returning to Taiwan, he went to the United States and Canada to perform with the Taipei Philharmonic Orchestra. He has served in the Experimental Orchestra of the Taiwan National Academy of the Arts, the Joint Experimental Orchestra, the National Concert Hall Orchestra, and the National Symphony Orchestra. He has been the bass principal of the National Symphony Orchestra for 30 years.

Fu has been invited to perform and give masterclass at the Berlin University of the Arts, the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris, the Affiliated High School of Shanghai conservatory, the Kirishima International Music Festival/ Master courses in Japan, and the Biarritz Bass Academy in France. He was interviewed by the International Society of Bassists (ISB). He has been invited to be the judge of the Singapore International Double Bass Competition and the Taiwan National Music Competition.

Many of Fu’s students appear in major orchestras and teach in conservatories around the world, such as Henry Chen and Herng-Yu Pan at Central Conservatory, Yi-Ching Ho at Orchestre National de Lille in French, Wei-Yu Chang at the French National Radio Orchestra, Pei-Hsuan Chen and Fu-Chun Chang at the Suzhou Orchestra, Wan-Ting Yu at the Taipei Symphony Orchestra et al.

His publications include the "Bach Six Suites for Double Bass Solo", "Method Book of the Double Bass", and transcription of Vivaldi’s "Four Seasons" for double bass duo and quintet. He also owns three albums, including the recording of his transcribed Bach six suites for double bass solo album, which is the world's only version. This Bach album won the 2019 Golden Melody Awards "Best Album in Classical Music".
