Lieberman is one of the most productive contemporary American composers. This Concerto for Flute, Harp and Orchestra is delicate and romantic. The principal harpist, Shuen Chieh and the principal flutist, Anders Norell, having played music together for many years, will show their wonderful tact in Lieberman’s beautiful work. For sheer grandeur, majesty and sheer tonal opulence, few works can compete with Saint- Saëns’ Symphony No.3. The prominent contribution from the organ, the “king of the instruments”, provides an additional measure of imposing sonority to the work, whose monumentality and undisguised intent to “wow’ the audience make it a concert hall favorite.
