JOHANNES BRAHMS: Horn Trio, in E-flat major Op. 40
"Czerny? Do you mean THE Czerny?" Everyone who has experiences having piano lessons must know this name by heart. In fact, other than a composer who created a large number of etudes for being a renowned piano teacher, Czerny was also a sought-after virtuoso pianist in his days. This “Horn Trio” shows just the less-known facets in Czerny’s works: sweet but with a slight melancholy, magnificent but still flows freely. The NSO soloists will rewind the time for you and bring back the cozy warmth among the gathering of musician friends in Vienna. Brahms’ “Horn Trio” has become no doubt one of the classics in this genre. He chose horn which he had learned since very young to mark and express his reminiscence and affection for his mother early after her death. He’d rather not to use the horns with levers, which were already pretty common at the time, but insisted to adopt the plain and simple sound of the imperfectly developed natural horn instead, to hum his faded yet sweeter melodies of golden time in his childhood.
