他是全方位的音樂家,集單簧管演奏家、作曲家、指揮於一身。

他是NSO本樂季的駐團藝術家,來自德國的魏德曼。在這場音樂會中,魏德曼將展現指揮與單簧管演奏的功夫,先以莫札特的單簧管協奏曲開場,緊接著為自己創作的《活力洋溢》,最後以孟德爾頌《蘇格蘭》交響曲畫下休止。

《活力洋溢》發表於2008 年,收錄在2015 年楊頌斯指揮巴伐利亞廣播交響樂團的專輯中。在十多分鐘的樂曲中,魏德曼的音符穿梭於細膩與奔放間,有如進行一場聲響的遊戲,兼具趣味和實驗感。

在投身作曲和指揮的道路上,魏德曼從未放棄獨奏家的角色,三個身分的結合,提供他解析作品的多視角。莫札特單簧管協奏曲膾炙人口,又為基本曲目,若求突破既定框架,演出挑戰更大。魏德曼不求標新立異,而是透視更多的細節,營造更豐富的聲音層次,突顯音符的律動,進行一場「活力洋溢」的詮釋。

1973年出生慕尼黑,魏德曼7歲時對單簧管一見鍾情,之後更沉醉於作曲世界,師事里姆(Wolfgang Rihm)、郭貝爾(Heiner Goebbels) 等作曲名家。他以獨奏家的姿態馳騁歐洲各大樂團,里姆《為單簧管與交響樂團所譜之樂曲》(Musik für Klarinette und Orchester)不僅由他首演,也是題獻給他。

魏德曼曾任琉森音樂節駐節藝術家,2017/2018 樂季獲聘為萊比錫布商大廈首位駐廳作曲家,作品由身兼布商大廈管絃樂團和波士頓交響樂團音樂總監尼爾森斯(Andris Nelsons)演出。2018/19 樂季將以獨奏家身份與巴伐利亞廣播交響樂團合作演出,該場音樂會由蘇珊娜·馬爾契(Susanna Mälkki)指揮;魏德曼本樂季亦是巴黎管弦樂團的駐團音樂家,作品將在多場音樂會中演出。

2019/20 樂季魏德曼將擔任卡內基音樂廳駐廳作曲家(Richard &Barbara Debs Composer’s Chair),他在音樂中宛如變色龍般輕易變換角色的全方位才能,將在該樂季中完整呈現:他的大型編制作品將由克里夫蘭管弦樂團、慕尼黑愛樂、馬勒室內樂團、紐約大都會歌劇管弦樂團演出;他以驚人的原創性為特色的室內樂作品,將由安娜-蘇菲·穆特(Anne-Sophie Mutter)帶領一支全明星室內樂組合演出,這將是他絃樂四重奏新作的紐約首演;他精湛的單簧管演奏技巧,將在與小提琴家塔碧亞·齊瑪曼(Tabea Zimmermann)和鋼琴家丹尼斯·瓦里翁(Dénes Várjon)搭檔演出舒曼、莫札特及自己的作品時,充分展現,另將一人分飾指揮、獨奏二角與愛爾蘭室內管弦樂團(Irish Chamber Orchestra)合作,並同國際當代合奏團(International Contemporary Ensemble)演出一場全魏德曼曲目的音樂會。

German composer Jörg Widman comes to Taipei wearing three hats: as composer, as conductor, and as soloist. His clarinet for Mozart's ethereally beautiful Clarinet Concerto opens the program, taking as its point of departure the 'con brio' movements of Beethoven's Seventh and Eighth symphonies. Widmann then returns to the stage with his own composition Con brio for Orchestra (2008). Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto was the last instrumental work he completed before his death. It is also the culmination of his career as "The Prince of Concerto Writers." That it was a concerto for clarinet was doubly fitting, for this was the wind instrument Mozart had loved above all others.

Clarinetist, composer and conductor Jörg Widmann is one of the most versatile and intriguing artists of his generation. The 2017/18 season will see him appear as soloist with orchestras such as Wiener Philharmoniker, Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra, Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, SWR Symphonieorchester and Orchester de Paris. 2018/19 season sees him appear as soloist with orchestras such as the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks with Susanna Mälkki.

Further residencies include the Orchestre de Paris where his works feature in various concerts. Jörg Widmann is also holder of the 2019/2020 Richard and Barbara Debs Composer's Chair at Carnegie Hall. During his residency, all facets of this musical chameleon will be showcased. His powerful orchestral works are featured in concerts by The Cleveland Orchestra, Munich Philharmonic, Mahler Chamber Orchestra, and The MET Orchestra. Recognized for the striking originality of his chamber music, an all-star ensemble headlined by violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter gives the New York premiere of his new work for string quartet. Widmann displays his formidable skills as a clarinetist, playing his own music as well as works by Schumann and Mozart in a trio with violist Tabea Zimmermann and pianist Dénes Várjon. He does double duty with the Irish Chamber Orchestra, conducting his own music and playing the clarinet, and with the International Contemporary Ensemble in a program devoted to his works.
