Ying-Chi Tang

A native-Taiwanese cellist, Ying-Chi Tang appears as a soloist, chamber musician throughout Taiwan, and is currently the cellist in National Symphony Orchestra (NSO, Taiwan Philharmania). Before this, Ms. Tang was the principal cellist in Evergreen Symphony Orchestra from 2010 to 2012, where she had collaborated with ESO playing cello concerto by Elgar and Haydn in National Concert Hall in Taipei, under the batons of Gernot Schmalfuss and Wen-Chen Chuang.

Working now in NSO, Ying-Chi Tang collaborates with NSO on different chamber projects and gives concerts frequently in National Recital Hall in Taipei. Ying-Chi Tang gave her solo recital debut in National Recital Hall in 2013 which was sponsored by Taiwan Classical Music Society.

Ms. Tang received her Master of Music degree on scholarship from Indiana University, where she was pupil of Tsuyoshi Tsutsumi and Csaba Onczay. Graduated from Indiana University, she went to Yale University to study with Aldo Parisot, the legendary cellist and pedagogue, and received Artist Diploma on full scholarship. Her training and development were decisively stimulated by masterclasses with Janos Starker, Jian Wang, Frans Helmerson, Clive Greensmith, and Ralph Kirshbaum.

Ms. Tang was the first-prize winner of National Student Comptetion of Music in 2000 and 2004. During pursuing her Master degree at Indiana University, Ms. Tang was the winner of Shostakovich cello concerto competition held by the Jacob School of Music, and had played with Indiana University Philharmonic Orchestra, under the baton of Sarah Ioannides. From 2004 to 2009, Ms. Tang was awarded the scholarship by Hsin-Tien Temple Cultural Educational Foundation.

In addition to being a performer, Ms.Tang also shows great passion for teaching. She teaches cello at National Kaohsiung Normal Univeristy, Affiliated Senior High School of National Taiwan Normal University, Wu-Ling Senior High School, and Chung-Hsing Junior High School, and coaches chamber music at Wu-Ling.
