Vienna and Budapest, the two capital cities of the dual monarchy of the Habsburg Empire, each impresses the world with their respective magnificence and heritage. Their fascinating cultural achievements bloomed in fin de siècle Europe, and have remained influential until today. This concert presents both well-known classics and rare treasures. Through works from 11 composers, from Romanticism to Serialism, Western Europe canons to folklore charm, the performance will recount the stories of the two cities and explore their magnificence and the turbulence of their time, observing the integration and clashes between tradition and innovation beneath the surface of art. Pleasure with taste, glory mixed with desolation, how much change and sorrow can music bear witness to? Join us on this musical journey of the great cities.
