This is a film music concert with stories.

On December 28, 1895, the French Lumière brothers held the first public debut of films at the Great Café in Paris, and invited a musician to simultaneously play improvised piano music while watching the screen. Thanks to his wonderful music, “silent films” are no longer silent. The French invented films, and also widen up the possibility for music. Saint-Saens is the first composer to write film music (The Assassination of the Duke of Guise, 1908). Fifty years later, the French founded Cannes Film Festival. Each year, while people all over the world walk down the red carpet premiers at the Cannes, “Aquarium” in Animal Carnival by Saint-Saens would be played. Film and music have become closely intertwined. Film critic Tony Tsu-Wei Lan will be the host of the concert, sharing with audience many interesting film stories with their music context.
