EDVARD GRIEG: Peer Gynt

The NSO’s 31st season closes with a rare and remarkable production of the complete incidental music Grieg wrote to go with a theatrical production of Henrik Ibsen’s great poetic drama Peer Gynt. The sights, sounds and folklore of Norway are deeply embedded in Grieg’s music, and nowhere more so than in his music for Peer Gynt. This includes all of the numbers in the two widely-known Peer Gynt Suites. But there is more to Grieg’s score than just the Suites ̶ much more – as the NSO’s performance with singers and narrator will reveal: native dances, terrifying encounters with supernatural phenomena, even Wagnerian redemption. Ibsen’s text has been adapted by musicologist Yuan-Pu Chiao for narration in Mandarin by David Wang. Not to be missed!
